A freshwater puffer is a common ⭐☆☆☆ fish caught by fishing in arid freshwater. It cooks into cooked pufferfish, and a Fisherman buys 12 of them for an Obol.

The same tables are also rolled by the fisherman's house chest in villages and by the elder guardian's drops, using the biome at the chest or where the elder guardian dies.

Usage

Food

The freshwater puffer keeps the vanilla pufferfish's effects when eaten raw:  Poison II for 1:00,  Hunger III for 0:15 and  Nausea for 0:15. It heals nothing. Cooking it into cooked pufferfish removes the poison and adds Conduit Power.

The recipes match any minecraft:pufferfish, so every pufferfish gives the same result. A Mud Kiln burns it into charred fish instead.

Crafting ingredient

Because it is a pufferfish underneath, it can be used in bokguk, which takes any pufferfish.

Trading

The Fisherman buys 12 caught freshwater puffer for 1 Obol once he reaches Apprentice level. Only fish caught by fishing (with the ⭐☆☆☆ line) are accepted.

Angler's Almanac

The Angler's Almanac has an entry for the freshwater puffer under Arid Freshwater (listed chance 35.7%), unlocked by catching one while the almanac tab is open. Its description reads:

A tiny fish that responds to danger by becoming a spiky balloon. Honestly fair.
