A piranha is an uncommon ⭐⭐☆☆ fish caught by fishing in tropical freshwater. It cooks into cooked fish, and a Fisherman buys 8 of them for an Obol.

The piranha can be caught in this table. The chances are per cast of a fishing rod and include the junk and treasure rolls.

The same tables are also rolled by the fisherman's house chest in villages and by the elder guardian's drops, using the biome at the chest or where the elder guardian dies.

Usage

Raw fish can be eaten, but it heals nothing: Matcha Flavoured removes hunger, and food only heals through the hearts shown on its tooltip. Cooked, it becomes cooked fish, which heals 4 ( × 2).

The recipes match any minecraft:cod, so every small fish gives the same result. A Mud Kiln burns it into charred fish instead.

Crafting ingredient

Because it is a cod underneath, it can be used wherever a raw cod is accepted: the green curry stock recipe takes any cod or salmon.

Trading

The Fisherman buys 8 caught piranha for 1 Obol once he reaches Journeyman level. Only fish caught by fishing (with the ⭐⭐☆☆ line) are accepted.

Angler's Almanac

The Angler's Almanac has an entry for the piranha under Tropical Freshwater (listed chance 19%), unlocked by catching one while the almanac tab is open. Its description reads:

A famous freshwater predator with terrifying teeth and a reputation that may be doing most of the work.

0.5-alpha	Fishing overhauled into climates with star-rated fish.
1.10	The Fisherman now buys 8 instead of 12. Now actually caught in tropical freshwater; the arid freshwater table used to override it.
1.12.1-alpha	Added an Angler's Almanac entry and a catch sound. The item format changed; fish caught before this version can no longer be sold.
