Sacred texts are seven rare books found as treasure in structures. They have no use on their own; the Mouthpiece trades them for crystal hearts and Ofuda, and the Archaeologist trades two of them for a map to the Overgrown Abbey.
The books are religious scriptures, esoteric and apocryphal texts, and two epic poems:
| Book | Tooltip | Rarity | Mouthpiece trade | Archaeologist trade |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| القرآن | Rare | With 1 crystal heart: Ofuda (Prayer of The Prophet, Protection II) | – | |
| התנך | Rare | With 1 crystal heart: Ofuda (Prayer of Exodus, Loyalty III, Trailblaze III, Power II) | – | |
| – | Rare | With 1 crystal heart: Ofuda (Prayer of The God-King, Efficiency II, Unbreaking I) | – | |
| ספר חנוך | Rare | With 1 crystal heart: Ofuda (Prayer of Samyaza, Sharpness III) | – | |
| by King Solomon | Epic | With 2 crystal hearts: Ofuda (Prayer of Belial, Mending) | – | |
| by John Milton | Uncommon | 1 crystal heart | Overgrown Abbey Map | |
| by Dante Alighieri | Uncommon | 1 crystal heart | Overgrown Abbey Map |
The Quran, the Tanakh and the Book of Enoch show their titles in Arabic and Hebrew in the tooltip.[1] All seven are books underneath, with their own names and textures, and stack to 64.[2] See Mouthpiece#Ofuda for the trades, which the Mouthpiece offers from Apprentice to Expert level.

History
| 1.10 | Added the Tanakh and the Quran, with their Mouthpiece trades.
The Avesta can be found in desert wells; its chance in desert pyramids was lowered from 50% to 33%. Paradise Lost and the Divine Comedy can be traded to the Archaeologist for an Overgrown Abbey map. |
|---|---|
| 1.12.1-alpha | Abbey towers always contain the Quran or the Tanakh.
Paradise Lost and the Divine Comedy are rarer in fishing buried treasure. The books moved to a new item format; old copies are updated when picked up. |
| 1.12.2 | The Quran and the Tanakh are found in trial chamber reward chests.
The Ofuda trades require crystal hearts as well as the book. |
Trivia
- Splash texts added in 1.10 call the Divine Comedy "Hashem's Favourite Fan Fiction" and Paradise Lost "Satan's Favourite Fan Fiction".[6] The 1.12.1-alpha release notes refer to the two poems as "Christian Fan fiction".
- The developer has described plans for sacred texts to be traded for maps that lead from one structure to the next: "The Moutpiece seeks wisdom, the Archaeologist seeks knowledge."[7]
- The release notes for 1.12.2 call adding the Quran and the Tanakh to trial chamber loot a "Temp fix".
